Mandy Ward

Managing Director and Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

“Often the children we work with have significant conditions or backgrounds that have affected them. At first, it’s about making a young person feel safe and happy and to show that someone cares. We’ve learned a different approach from the way schools might work or even other specialists, through experience over the years. Knowing each child and listening to every child and parent, is vital and taking that different approach brings hoped-for outcomes and that’s very rewarding.”

About Us

Our Mission

We look to build confidence, self-esteem, social skills, life skills and improve emotional wellbeing. We also improve attendance for our learners. We have excellent outcomes for all children we work with under the SEN umbrella and also with children that have missed education or are school refusers with no diagnosis or EHCP but just need that extra help to stay on the positive pathway to education and life.

We offer 121 face-to-face tuitions for children at risk of exclusion from school or permanently excluded either at home, in the local library or community centre, or even in school and we are putting interventions in place and helping schools too, to avoid permanent exclusions.

We also offer live learning and education programmes online where our tutors take 121 live lessons or works with several children of the same age in different locations online to build their social and life skills.

Whether we’re face-to-face or online, we also offer, life skills interventions, gardening, cooking, shopping, sports, arts and so on, to help unpick some of the issues our children or young people face to both get to the root of the problem and also remove the barriers affecting a happy life and good education. From there, we begin to build up our pupils, to either get them back into mainstream school or other educations or specialist provision and give them the right support to stop them falling through the net.

Our Values

People-centred

We invest in our relationships to see positive outcomes that are long-lasting and incredibly rewarding.

Down to earth

We’re able to connect with children and families to help them achieve their goals and dreams because we are free to take a different approach to learning than in the confines of a standard placement.

Time is everything

We recognise that there is no quick fix for any learner and that we need to take the time to understand the issues, the challenges and the worries a new young person placed with us carries; our first job is to listen and learn.

Professional and committed

Our connection with our referrers is long-term and means our partners know they can rely on us to support the children and young people in their care. we want that happy-normal approach so we’re comfortable.

Safeguarding is paramount

We’re different from everyone else because we tutor to help young learners engage in education, whether that’s about English and maths or mentoring for safety, wellbeing, health and sexual relationships. We understand that we have to fill in the gaps in our children’s learning. We teach empathy; connection and trust are key for safe and happy outcomes for all.

Vision

Every member of our team has an enhanced DBS and we take safeguarding immensely seriously, with risk assessments for all situations because we understand the vulnerability of many of the young people we work with and the critical importance of the role of safeguarding in the provision that we make.
